this may sound crazy, but someone told me they remembered an episode of the series where Jeannie actually got spanked on screen by Tony for some reason. Anybosy remember such a scene?

I've seen almost every episodes of IDOJ and I don't remember anything like this. I don't think it ever happened.

Tony said he a had a good mind to put Jeannie over his knee and give her a good spanking in season 2. for not listening to him and breaking up his date. That was all. She ended up saving his life in that show.

You always had the feeling he wanted to hit her when she messed up though. He was a bit rough with her at times I always thought. He'd grab her by her arm a little to rough for my liking, but the gags always worked.

Yes , That is one of the only things I did not like about Tony. Sometimes he was a bit too strong with Jeannie. I do think that Larry Hagman did a great job on the show though. Deep down inside Tony really "always" loved her. Welcome to the site! ;D

Thanks for the welcome!
I enjoyed Larry's portrayal okay. I just wished he hadn't been so rough with Jeannie. I can't picture anyone else in the role. I think he and Barbara had the most impeccable timing together. Their reactions were just so in-tune with each other.

I mean, she would sent him to North Pole without a coat, if she was angry, or put him upside down in the ceiling, imprison him in a cage, and the list goes on and on. He never really got close to hurt her. He was forceful in his words, though, but never in acts.

Yeah but come on she's a girl... A girl who was perfect able to defend herself. In fact, in more than one episode she is shown as physically stronger than him. For example, in My Master, the Ghost Breaker, she carries Major Nelson and Major Healey luggage without breaking a sweat. In The strongest man in the world, we see her punching a boxer without a single effort. So, not only she could defend herself magically, but also physically. But this is moot point. The truth is that he never grabbed her roughly, as people are insinuating. He yelled at her, frequently, and he did say a lot of hurtful things to her, but he never physically hurt her. On the contrary, on the second episode of the show, Jeannie asked him if he thought it was proper for a man to hit a woman, and his answer was to ask her if anyone hit her, and to tell her that no man would ever hit her or any other woman with him around. I think it is one thing to say you would like to spank someone, when you are frustrated and you want to vent your frustration. How many times people say things like that when they are angry? A whole different thing is to really do it. Tony frequently lost his temper with Jeannie, and said things he never meant to. A good example of that is Guess who is going to be a bride I, when he lost Jeannie because he said he was sick of her and her magic ruining his life, when he was completely in love with her, and couldn't live without her. The truth is that the whole situation Tony and Jeannie were in, contributed a lot for Tony's state of mind. He was always having to hide Jeannie, and he lived in fear of the day someone would find out that she lived with him. In his mind, the day that happened, that would mean that the whole world would find out she was a genie. It was just too much for him to handle. In his subconscious, no matter how much he loved her, he also resented her because of her being a genie, and not being able to understand that she could not do half of the things she did. The moment he finally came clean, and anouced their engagement to the world, his behavior with Jeannie imediately changed. Yes, he would still be in panic about her powers. He would still jump, or even get angry when she did something wrong with her powers, but he would also be patient and understanding. Most of the time, he would not yell at her, and would try to explain to her why she couldn't do the things that way. In fact, the only episode when he was a little mean to her in season 5, was Jeannie and the curious kid, and even in this episode, it was because he was desperate about the kid finding out about her bottle, and Jeannie kept doing magic, even though he had explained her not to do it. He turned out to be right in the end, because the kid stole Jeannie's bottle with her trapped inside. And he apologized, even though he was right.

He turned out to be right in the end, because the kid stole Jeannie's bottle with her trapped inside. And he apologized, even though he was right. I completely agree. People don't give Jeannie enough credit for the power she had... and not just her magical powers. She was more than capable of taking care of herself. And yes, Tony's attitude (and sometimes on the verge of overbearing) towards Jeannie never got close to the point that you were afraid he was really going to hurt her. It was just in Tony's nature to be boisterous and jumpy and nervous, and a lot of the time, he took these feelings out on Jeannie. But there's no doubt he loved her, even earlier on in the series. And in Season 5, he becomes more tender than he was in a long time (the first season shows a lot of the tender Tony too). Bottom line: Tony loved Jeannie, and would never hurt her- and we as an audience knew this, even when he got into his rough and tough mode. Let's face it... it was more for the comedy aspects of things than anything... you never felt Jeannie was in danger, or that Tony was attacking her in any way.

Nope. No, no, NO. I know this is an old thread, but there is no excuse for treating her rough. "But she's a genie" is not an excuse. Personally, I didn't find Tony too rough, but I don't like how you are defending those actions. Grabbing an arm and yanking it is not a gentlemanly thing to do. Jeanie's scenes were always lighthearted and playful. Tony's, however, were aggressive and mean. He meant to scold her and make her feel bad. There were admittedly times when he treated her rough. I think excusing that behavior is irresponsible.
