Where'd You Go-Go?

This is probably my favourite episode of season one. It's so nice seeing Tony get jealous for once! I love the scene in the restaurant where Tony is having to pretend that he’s never met Jeannie, yet is visibly suffering as he watches her be very tender and attentive to Roger whilst Roger is completely enamoured of her. It’s played very well by Eden and Hagman - very "Dangerous Liaisons" - and for one of the first times in the series you get to see a clear illustration of the sexual tension between them, particularly during the "I bet you would notice if you having breakfast with a chimpanzee" exchange when they're casting knowing glances at each other. Also when Tony is practically chewing on his fist when Jeannie is checking the temperature of Roger's coffee!

I like the conversation Tony and Jeannie have at the restaurant and how jealous Tony acts...or how Roger knocks on Tony's door right in the middle of the night and how Jeannie finds out that Tony did see Roger and the kiss at the end of the episode. Great kiss. You're right Barbara and Larry did a very good job in this one. You see the chemistry Barbara was talking about, I believe she said she and Larry are not playing it, it is there.

I totally believe that. There does seem to be a lot of natural chemistry between the two of them and I'm sure there were some bits that they didn't have to act much.

In fact, I've just thought of two examples where you can see this natural chemistry really come through and when the script didn't require it. Firstly, during the very first episode, just after Jeannie has emerged from the bottle, kissed Tony and is standing there with her arms round his neck. When he says the line, "I must have gone further into orbit than I thought" and they are standing gazing at each other, I'm *certain* that you hear Jeannie/Barbara break into a laugh (it's hard to tell over the laugh track but I'm sure it's there) and Tony/Larry suddenly grins at her just before the screen goes black (for the end of the scene). It's a really natural moment - and probably was, I'm not sure if she was meant to laugh and he was probably reacting to that. Watch it again and you'll see what I mean.

Secondly, and it was your picture that made me remember this which I think is from 'The Richest Astronaut In The World', Tony has got Jeannie back from Roger and they are standing there with their arms round each other. Roger tells Jeannie, "You'll all his now" and she giggles and says "I know." and moves her face close to Tony's. As she does so, Tony/Larry makes a sortof pouting movement with his lips like he's going to give her a quick kiss. I don't think that was in the script as it looked really natural.

Finally someone who noticed that in "The Richest Astronaut in the World" I thought I was seeing things..there is something about the way they look at each other after Tony has let Jeannie out of the bottle...they seem so comfortable with each other..too comfortable ..but I absolutely love that scene, that's why I have that one as my avatar...

BTW, suzie, I believe that the scene on the beach in the pilot episode is Larry's favorite scene from the show, I guess you can see why . It was also the beginning of something wonderful, a great new and successful show, so most actors naturally would remember that and funny enough they remember those scenes best that were special to them, in one way or another...

Did you see how in the pilot episode when Jeannie was out of the bottle and she kissed Tony, Tony kept his eyes open when they kissed, like a little school boy who's just had his first kiss. I believe I read somewhere that Larry was kind of scared when he first met Barbara, this may explain his behavior

In "The Richest Astronaut in the whole wide world" When Tony finds that Roger took Jeannie and Jeannie sees him and goes over and hugs him, for a breif moment you can see the look on Tony's face it's like he is embracing the moment and he misses her. But than Roger opens his big fat mouth and says "That's my Jeannie your hugging"

Awww I know exactly the moment you're talking about!! It's a beautiful second that Larry does so perfectly.

Yeah he's holding onto her and his face looks like "I am never going to let her go"
