Was I Dream of Jeannie realistic in the aspect that there was a single man and a beautiful woman living under the same roof while being platonic? I mean Tony and Jeannie lived together for 4 years before they got married and they didn't think about it?! I know Jeannie slept in her bottle and Tony slept in his bedroom but come on! I love I Dream of Jeannie and am happy that Tony and Jeannie ended up together but I can't help but question the whole platonic thing. Now don't attack me or anything because I know even shows back then had married couples sleep in separate beds, but at least they were in the same room. I haven't seen the episodes after Tony and Jeannie are married but does she still sleep in her bottle or do they sleep in the same room? I mean on Bewitched Darrin and Samantha shared a bed so why should I Dream of Jeannie be any different? Just something I have been thinking about...

When Tony and Jeannie are married in the series, it is obvious that she sleeps in Tony's bedroom, but, unlike Bewitched, there is never a scene with both of them in his bed. I think Bewitched was the first series ever to show a married couple sleeping in the same bed. I would be willing to bet that had the series gone on, there would have been a scene with them sleeping in the same room.

The only scene I recall in the bedroom was once when Jeannie was making the bed. I know he spent the night with her on thier wedding night.
I think the only way it was believable was that Tony was a pretty honerable guy, and would never want to encourage Jeannie so much as to sleep with her. I think Jeannie would consent before Tony would.

The Duck I think Jeannie might have done it before marriage if 'properly encouraged', but Tony was far too honorable and principled to be that sort of guy. As for the situation, I think it's definitely realistic. In college, guys and girls live together in dormitories, sometimes for years, without physical relationships necessarily developing. As well, in Three's Company, the roommates remained platonic for 7 years! I think that, to say that the Tony/Jeannie situation would be unrealistic given human nature, would be to say that it's impossible for close male/female friendships to be formed without the relationship going beyond the platonic stage.

I see what you guys are saying. I was just thinking about Jeannie being cooped up in a bottle for 2,000 years and then having this gorgeous, sweet man rescue you. I would be a little anxious, if you know what I mean... LOL. I mean Jeannie could have easily cast a spell on Tony to get him to love her but she didn't, she let him do it on his own. She did cast a marriage spell on him but it didn't last long. Jeannie was this beautiful, half-naked woman willing to do anything for Tony and you think he would at least be tempted. He didn't of course, but it does make you think. ;D

I think Bewitched was the first series ever to show a married couple sleeping in the same bed. Actually The Munsters was the first sitcom ever to show a married couple in bed together. There were many scenes with Herman and Lily in bed.

I had forgotten about that! I wondered how The Munsters got away with that?! Lily and Herman were quite fond of each other just like Tony and Jeannie were, but Tony and Jeannie kissed more as friends, most likely, than when they were actually married. LOL. ;D

Actually. Not to argue or anything but in "I love Lucy" Ricky and Lucy shared a bed in some episodes. But Ethel and Fred did share a bed together.

And then they went to two actual separate beds later in the show.

I beleive it was realistic. Because back then it was not proper for a single man and a single woman to live under the same roof. Good observations though =]

Yep, I noticed that too jeannietonyfan. But technicaly (sp?) it was the first show to have the couple share a bed.
