Does anyone else love this episode? It's from season three. Basically Jeannie wants to accompany Tony to a function but he refuses, worried about the trouble she'll cause with her magic. Jeannie compromises by promising to transfer her powers for 24 hours. Tony agrees but little does he realise she's transferred her powers to him. Cue what I think is a hilarious episode with Tony unwittingly causing magic all over the place, culminating in him unknowingly transferring Jeannie's powers to Dr Bellows.
Perhaps part of the reason why I hold this episode in such high regard is because it was one of the first ones I ever saw but also there are so many bits that made me laugh. I'm not sure where to start:
- When Tony turns Roger into a brick and then a baby
- When Dr Bellows has Jeannie's powers and is rehearsing his speech and says "I wish I could trade places with Major Anthony Nelson" and bingo! He and Tony are now standing on opposite sides of the room. Then when Dr Bellows says "Imagine this is the speakers' table at the banquet" and suddenly his desk changes to a long table laden with food and drink. Roger's reactions during this scene are priceless!
- When Tony inadvertantly wishes that he could get through the entire evening without saying a word and hey presto! He's lost his voice!
I especially liked Jeannie's role in this episode because although it's only her power that she's transferred, at times it seems like she and Tony have traded places as Jeannie becomes the advisor which is unusual as that's normally Tony's role. Thus, Jeannie advises him that by flooding the deserts he may empty an ocean, and later when he loses his voice she laughs and tells him, "Well, blink."
In addition, once he has retrieved the powers from Dr Bellows, Tony actually seems to be quite enjoying himself. OK, so he's worried about leaking magic all over the place during the course of the evening (and I would have loved to have seen what happened at the banquet!) but you can tell he's kindof liking the experience, laughing when he's fixed Jeannie's hair and messing around when he's got his voice back ("Testing, testing, 1, 2, 3.").
I'm not a big fan of season three but this is one of the episodes that I have rewatched quite a few times.
