Has anyone else gotten this yet? I got it last night and watched the first two episodes. I thought that the sound on the first episode could have been a bit clearer, but the picture looked lovely!
On Jeannie and the Tiger, there is a disc error. In one of the scenes near the end of the episode with Jeannie's sister and Tony, there is this weird flash of green light that appears for about 5 seconds. It's really bizarre! But it was really fun to see this ep. on DVD for the first time!
Patterson Lundquist the cover art and the little pictures on the episode guides and the art on the DVD's themselves are gorgeous!! Thanks for the improvement on the 2nd season art.
Can't wait to watch the rest of the episodes!

Hmm... in the Season 3 IDOJ DVDs a few suspicious things have been reported...
In the original version of Episode #70 [Meet My Master's Mother], when Tony's mother goes to sleep on the sofa, Jeannie does the following to try to wake her up:
1. Play a trumpet. 2. Play a bass drum. 3. Crash two cymbals together. 4. Fire a cannon.
The part where Jeannie plays the bass drum is missing in the DVD version of the episode. In the DVD episode, it goes from Jeannie playing the trumpet to her crashing the cymbals. However, if you look closely after the camera switches from looking at Tony's mother, we see Jeannie put the drum sticks down and we can see the bass drum sitting on the floor. Also, Tony's mother later mentions a bass drum being banged in her dream. Hence, there appears to have been a few seconds' edit here.
There is also some suspicion of a cut/edit in Episode #63 [Jeannie or the Tiger], during the scene where Jeannie I and Jeannie II are talking in the living room, the shades of color waver back and forth - particularly obvious when you focus on the dark brown wall in the background of that scene.
Some people have reported that Episode #71 [Here Comes Bootsie Nightingale] has a 'jittery picture' through most of the episode.
Additional problems have included listing the thirteenth episode of Season 3, on Disc #3, when the episode was actually on Disc #2. Also, the same opening credits were used from Season 2 - Season 3 was the 1967-68 season but the copyright year on the Season 3 opening titles shows MCMLXVI (1966), which is correct for Season 2, not Season 3.

Yes, there sure is some suspicious stuff once again. I noticed the bass drum thing, and thought for sure that Jeannie had played it, so that explains my suspicion. I'm not sure about the cut in Jeannie or the Tiger, but the picture is fuzzy. To tell you the truth, whenever there's the close-up before the theme song the picture gets fuzzy. And yes, the "Bootsie Nightingale" episode does have a jittery picture... I thought there was something wrong with my DVD player for a while there! And yes, the episode "My Son the Genie" is on Disc 2, not Disc 3. That's a shame about the theme song... I wish Sony would put more effort into this series... the lack of attention it is getting is quite sad.

Yup, there is some suspicious stuff. I think it can be said with certainty that there was a small cut in Meet My Master's Mother, for some reason. Yes, that's what I meant. Sorry - I don't know why I wrote 'cut' in my original post. The picture is fuzzy and the color fluctuates somewhat. I've noticed that too. That is very unfortunate as one would think that a thing like that could easily be fixed. Yeah, it does have a jittery picture. I've noticed that there were a few Season 1 and Season 2 episodes that also had a few seconds where they were 'jittery'... I forget the exact episodes, since the 'jittering' was always only a few seconds - the longest example I recall, it jittered for like 7-10 seconds. One scene I remember that was jittery had Major Nelson driving along and entering a NASA parking lot... for 5-6 seconds while he passed by the entry attendant's booth, the picture was quite jittery. Another scene that was jittery had Tony walking from the kitchen to his bedroom. But as I said - I have absolutely no memory of which epsiodes these scenes were in. Yeah, I know. I wish they'd put at least some effort into sprucing things up, rather than just dumping the stuff out onto DVDs. But I'm happy that they are at least putting out the DVDs!

I appreciate their putting it out because their putting it out on DVD effectively immortalizes the series... once DVDs are out, it'll always be available! Even if, the Great Haji forbid, one day it really did fade into the 'obscurity of syndication', it'd at least still be on DVD.

I live in Canada, and the channel that used to show IDOJ all the time has taken it off the air, and I'm so upset!!! Luckily, I have the 5th season on VHS, and now Season 1-3 on DVD, but I miss the 4th season and am in 4th season withdrawal at the moment!

Yeah, that's true. I would agree that the 4th season is the weakest of the series. Yup. Which gives you a good idea of just how important the time slot is to a show's ratings during its original run... in its orginal run, IDOJ's lowest ratings were for Season 5. Even Season 4 of IDOJ had higher ratings than Season 5 did, because Season 4 was in a 'stronger' time-slot than Season 5 was. It's unfortunate because if Season 5 had been in a similarly strong time-slot as Season 4, it would have pulled in higher ratings than Season 4 (given that it is actually better) and we might very well have gotten a sixth season.

Yeah, they were constantly changing the time slot- I think Barbara said that every year it was on it was in a different time slot, so when you consider that, it's amazing the show lasted 5 years... they must have had a core faithful audience that was always watching them. Yeah, if they were going to do something as drastic as getting them married, they should have kept the time slot in the Season 4 slot.

Yeah, if they were going to do something as drastic as getting them married, they should have kept the time slot in the Season 4 slot. I agree completely. As Barbara said, they were on 'every day of the week'! (Since their time slot kept changing.) It is indeed amazing that it lasted as long as it did with all the drastic changes to its timeslot... its core audience must have been very devoted indeed to keep following it around. Yes - I also agree that, since they knew before Season 5 started that Tony and Jeannie were going to get married in Season 5, in light of that, they should have kept the same time slot as Season 4 (instead of moving Season 5 to a very weak time slot). Drat the network for their stupid decisions.
