Thought this might be fun... what are your top 10 favourite episodes of IDOJ and why? I'm looking forward to reading everyone's responses!
Here's mine: "Get Me to Mecca on Time": "bottle to genie, genie to master, master to Mecca, Ramda!" This one is so great, Tony doesn't want to see Jeannie vanish, and you see the bond that Tony and Jeannie have already created in a short amount of time... one of my favourite early episodes!
"My Master, the Great Caruso": I've pretty much already explained in another thread why I love this episode so much, almost every moment of this episode makes me laugh...
"My Incredible Shrinking Master": Again, I've pretty much explained this one too... Tony calming down Jeannie at the beginning, Tony getting shrunken and taken for a ride on the record player and then becoming almost deaf when the phone rings, and Roger always telling Dr. Bellows to "tippee toe" to be careful of the crystal all add up to making this one of the gems of the series.
"Everybody's a Movie Star": Paul Lynde is a great guest star, and I love the scene where Tony and Roger are filming the scene in Tony's house. The dialogue without all the slapstick... ie: Roger saying "I'd love a cup of coffee this morning Tony" is very funny, and then when the door falls on Tony and Roger continues the scene anyway... I laugh out loud every time I see it!
"Genie Genie Who's Got the Genie"- Parts 1-4... OK so this should technically be 4 separate episodes, but I had to include them all in one so I would have more room! hee hee... how can you not love this one? Tony getting terrified that Jeannie has been destroyed by the crusher, and saying that he'll never let her out of his sight again, and getting to see Jeannie's sister making an appearance, to a "suspenseful" ending that the safe might blow up until the combination is finally revealed... 4 9 7! This was a great idea to do a multi-part show like this, and I think many people remember these episodes because of it.
"Guess Who's Going to Be a Bride- Part 2"... Hooray! Tony and Jeannie are finally getting married! I love the scene in the Alutians where Tony finds out that Jeannie is getting married and tells Roger he loves her and that he has been "dreaming of her every night".... awww!
"The Wedding": Barbara Eden's favourite and certainly one of mine! The scene with Tony and Jeannie in the bottle is one of the most romantic of the whole series, and I love the scenes with Roger and Mrs. Bellows at the rehearsal when they keep crying... it's very subtle but adorable to watch!
"Mrs. Djinn Djinn": Tony is so cute when he thinks he's going to be a father. And the scene with the surprise party and they think that Jeannie's going into labour and Amanda is like "that's impossible she's not even showing" and then saying to Tony when he doesn't go in to see Jeannie: "Major Nelson what kind of a MAN are you?" hee hee
"An Astronaut in Sheep's Clothing": Very cute that Jeannie wants to make Tony a present without blinking, and the bottle scene at the end is one of the very sweetest, and a very romantic kiss at the end... sigh!
"Hurricane Jeannie": The episode that could have been (and in a way IS) a beautiful ending to our beloved show. We know that Tony and Jeannie will always have each other no matter what obstacles may come their way.
Honourable Mention: "Who Are You Calling a Genie?": I think the plot of Jeannie not knowing she is a genie and then is appalled to learn that she's living with Tony is priceless. And Tony and Roger on the scaffold is hilarious! "My Master the Ghost Breaker": A cute episode! I don't know the appeal of it for me but I just think it's a very appealing episode.
"Abdullah"- I think this is just plain cute. I love the part when Jeannie and Tony are taking care of Abdullah in the middle of the night like real parents... makes you wish the series had gone on long enough to see them do this with their own child...
"Invisible House for Sale": Brilliant miming of the invisible house by Bill Daily and very cute episode.
"The Blood of a Jeannie": Very cute... Jeannie and Tony working together for once... they're both allies! And Jeannie getting on the scale and saying "It lies!" is very cute and all us women like to think that once in a while!
"The Mad Home Wrecker": Tony as the Mad Home Wrecker is hilarious... "they aren't all that intelligent down at the hirin' hall"... hee hee! Although I don't like the 5th season set as much as the rest of the series... it was so much more homey and casual before this.... and I miss the blue chair! (even though it does show up occasionally in this season).
"One of Our Hotels is Growing": Some very cute scenes with Tony, Jeannie, and Roger trying to keep the Bellows in the hotel... I love when Roger and Tony disguise themselves as the waiters... hee hee!
"Jeannie and the Curious Kid": Well the Bellows break-and enter "sequel" is fun to see, and Jeannie drunk is one funny Jeannie!

Wow this one is really tough! I don't even know where to start...
I actually love all the episodes in your list - they're certainly among my top favorites in the show! I know that some people dislike Djinn-Djinn (and consequently hate all the episodes that puppy is in) for some reason... but I didn't, and thought the little magic puppy was absolutely adorable!
I guess I'd only like to add a few episodes to the 'honorable mention' list...
Whatever Became of Baby Custer? - Tony shows off his weird (funny) dancing skills! (One of the earliest series examples of Larry Hagman's physical comedy.) Jeannie taunts Custer behind Bellows' back! Bellows gets led off by a police officer for being a peeping Tom who's also training a protege (Custer)! (I love the scene where the officer asks Nelson if he knows this guy - referring to Bellows - and Tony confesses that he does, and that he is shocked at his behavior!)
My Master the Doctor - Tony becomes a surgeon and tries to operate on Roger. Roger screaming and running away is priceless! Then Dr. Bellows intervenes and says Roger must absolutely have his appendix out by Tony! Bellows then finds out but is thwarted by Jeannie in a priceless scene where he removes 'Tony's' mask...
My Master, the Great Rembrandt - Also a very funny and classic episode. The French guy at the end is very funny when both Tony and Dr. Bellows push him to go home and head back to France.
And a special 'appended' honorary mention to How to Be a Genie in Ten Easy Lessons which, while as a whole episode not one of my top favorites, did have a very touching scene near the end where Tony delivers a heartfelt apology to Jeannie and admits he was wrong for trying to change her.

Wow, all the ones you've mentioned are great too! I have to admit though that I'm not a huge fan of Djinn-Djinn... I wouldn't say that I don't like the episodes with him in it, because I love every episode, but I wouldn't say they're my favourites... in fact Mrs. Djinn-Djinn I like because there's only one "shredding of the uniforms" scene, and I think sometimes they went overboard with those scenes in the Djinn-Djinn episodes. But I know that Larry Hagman liked those episodes a lot, and I could see why, because it would be a hoot to play and mime that a dog is attacking you. Anyway, back to my comments... I love Tony's accent in "My Master the Doctor"... one of the cutest Season 1 episodes. And yeah, "My Master the Great Rembrandt" is very cute... I also love the auction scene when Roger's modern painting isn't selling and Tony says "Guess who just bought a painting?".... what a great friend he is! You're right, the end scene in "How to Be a Genie in 10 Easy Lessons" is one of the sweetest scenes... how he says that when you really care about someone, you don't go around trying to change them...awwww! Another very cute scene that I forgot to include yesterday is in a very early episode... "The Moving Finger". The scene at the end where Jeannie finds out that she can't be photographed and is very upset and then Tony sneaks in and Jeannie says "I can't believe it, I have taken you away from the most beautiful star in movies", and Tony says, as he's drying her teary eyes, "That's show business"... I think that's one of the most lovely moments those two shared.

Wow, all the ones you've mentioned are great too! Thanks, I'm flattered! Ah, I agree, actually. The concept was cute and the dog was cute but I completely agree that I got tired of the uniform shredding scenes... they really over-did it. Djinn Djinn would have been even more likable and cuter if they hadn't gone crazy with having him shred uniforms over and over again. Like with you, the Djinn-Djinn episodes with the exception of Mrs. Djinn-Djinn are not among my top favorites even though I still like them. But the depth of hate some people apparently harbor for Djinn Djinn and the Djinn Djinn episodes is a bit shocking and also uncalled for, in my humble opinion. Yeap - I really loved that episode. Larry and Bill were great in that one. Yep that was pretty touching. This episode wasn't as good as My Master, the Doctor in my opinion but I still thought it was one of the best ones in the series. Yeah. It's one of the moments where we really get to see the 'real Tony' underneath his often brusque and occasionally uncaring exterior. It was one of those cases where Tony really shone as a character. Yes - I forgot about that one too. That too was a really touching scene!

Yeah, that's pretty silly, and you're right, completely uncalled for.
"Yeap - I really loved that episode. Larry and Bill were great in that one."
Yeah, they were... again this episode is another early indication of the eventual turn in direction of the series.
"Yep that was pretty touching. This episode wasn't as good as My Master, the Doctor in my opinion but I still thought it was one of the best ones in the series."
Yeah, it's a great one, definitely in the highlights of Season 1!

Yes, I think so too!"

Yes, it's those little moments that Tony and Jeannie share that for me are the gems of the series... I know I'm always waiting for those little moments when I'm watching the episodes.
Interesting how almost none of our favourite episodes include Jeannie II...

The little but significant moments like these are part of why we like IDOJ. Yeah, that is interesting, isn't it? I've heard of some people citing Jeannie or the Tiger as a 'top favorite' but somehow it just doesn't cut it for me...

I think that makes the show rewatchable too... because through these lovely moments you can trace the arc of Jeannie and Tony's relationship from Season 1 to Season 5, how their relationship got them to the point where Tony proposed to her, and got them married, to the point that their love was so strong that it seemed like a logical next step.

Yeah, "Jeannie or the Tiger" is cute, but it's not one of my favourites either... to tell you the truth I've always kind of wondered why they brought Jeannie II in. I mean when you think about it it wasn't necessary, and it just gave them another reason to be compared to "Bewitched". I mean, we got some cute episodes out of it, but I wouldn't call any of the Jeannie II episodes "classics".

Yup. Tracing the evolution of their relationship over the years/seasons through these episodes is always one of the best things about the series... there may be quite a few continuity errors, but in the most important arc of all, Tony & Jeannie's relationship over the years, the series has a wonderful continuity from the time they met to the time they walked down the aisle together... I think part of the reason was James Henerson was the person who created Jeannie II... well, James was also a writer for Bewitched. Thus when writing for IDOJ he naturally decided to use a Bewitched idea, 're-blink' it a little, and re-use it in IDOJ... hence Jeannie II! The problem is that while Serena was necessary for Bewitched because otherwise Samantha was just too boring, a similar argument could not be made for Jeannie... she by herself was already interesting enough that she didn't have to have an 'evil mirror' to spice things up in IDOJ. Jeannie II was unnecessary and, you're right, just gave IDOJ yet another reason to be compared to Bewitched. I agree. At least we got some cute episodes out of it, though... could have been much worse.

They needed to bring in Serena because the show was too boring, but Jeannie was such a vibrant character to begin with! I think that was a mistake on Henerson's part. Wasn't he fired from "Bewitched" when he mistakenly wrote "Samantha blinks" in one script? I betcha Elizabeth had something to do with that one... "I agree. At least we got some cute episodes out of it, though... could have been much worse." Yes, it could have been a lot worse, you're right. And Barbara was great at playing her and I know that she had loads of fun doing it, so I guess everything worked out.

Wasn't he fired from "Bewitched" when he mistakenly wrote "Samantha blinks" in one script? I betcha Elizabeth had something to do with that one... Yes, I agree completely. Bewitched was set up so that they had to bring in a character like Serena to spice things up a little... Jeannie was already written as such a vibrant and interesting character that there was little (no) need for a character like Jeannie II. Henerson did infact start writing for Bewitched before he started writing for IDOJ and hence it's obvious where he got the Jeannie II idea from. But Henerson wasn't fired from Bewitched until, as you say, in a Bewitched script he accidentally wrote "Samantha blinks." Hehe - you bet Samantha - err, I mean Liz - was instrumental in 'letting him [Henerson] go', as Henerson put it. In his own words: HENERSON: I really goofed, in a Bewitched script I accidentally wrote "Samantha blinks," when they read that they knew I was playing for both teams and they let me go. Yup, Barbara did say she had lots of fun playing Jeannie II and filming the scenes where Jeannie I and Jeannie II were both on simultaneously. Barbara also did a great job playing Jeannie II, and the episodes were quite cute and fun to watch, so yes, I'd agree that everything worked out in the end.

There are a few episodes I like but I don't know their titles. I will give a brief summary of each and maybe you can tell me the titles.
The first one I like is when Tony pretends to be a British doctor to fool Jeannie but unbeknownst to him she knows the whole time. I thought Roger was hilarious in this episode due to the fact that he didn't know it was really Tony until Tony told him. The other part I like is near the end when Jeannie gives him that long smooch and his reaction. He was really funny.
The other episode I like is the one when Tony and Roger have to live together for a week as a project. At first they don't get along. Jeannie can't be around during all this but she still shows up and intervenes by cleaning up and then making the house automatic. Things in the house come to then when they ask and one time it happened when Dr. Bellows was there. The scene near the end when Jeannie had Dr. Bellows and Mrs. Bellows fight and then had the roof cave in on everyone was funny.
The last episode that I like is the one when Tony and Roger accidentally switch personalities. I liked Mrs. Bellows reaction when she saw Tony but heard him talking in Roger's voice. I also liked Jeannie's reaction when she heard Tony with Roger's voice. It was so funny. She couldn't stop laughing. The bloodhound and tricking Dr. Bellows was funny too. I couldn't stop laughing during this episode.
I like many others but these are the ones I like that I don't know the titles to because I have them on tape. So if anyone can tell me what they are I would be grateful.

I had almost completely forgotten about this episode... thanks so much for reminding me about it... according to the episode guide on this site it's called "Indispensable Jeannie". This is a really funny slapstick episode, isn't it? Love the part with Roger and Jeannie and the dog... so hilarious. It's called "Haven't I Seen Me Someplace Before?"

Thanks for your help. There was one more I wanted to add to my list. It's the one where Jeannie gives her powers to Tony for a week and he doesn't know it until Jeannie comes to NASA to tell him but by this time Tony has accidentially given his powers to Dr. Bellows. The part I like the most is when Tony and Roger are in the room working and anytime Tony says something it happens. Roger was a brick and then he was a baby. Awww... Then they were actually up to their ears in paperwork. LOL. Tony asked for everything to disappear and it did literally and he fell on the floor. It was so funny. I couldn't stop laughing. If you could tell me the name of this one, I would appreciate it. Thanks!

1. THE LADY IN THE BOTTLE This was the very 1st and the very best in my eyes. It had it all , wonderful acting, kissing, romance and great comedy. Just plain hot!! 2. THE WEDDING Not only did Tony and Jeannie finally tie the knot, they had one of the sweetest bottle scenes together. Tony was at his best here trying to clam Jeannie down from crying, pouring his heart and true feelings to her. Also, Barbara did a great job as a fake Jeannie/dummy. 3. HAPPY ANNIVERSARY This episode was well written and well thought of. I love this one almost as much as the pilot. Jeannie and Tony save each other again! So romantic and lots of fun. to watch, M. Ansara was wonderful as the Blue Djinn. Barbara and Larry so great at the physical comdey here too. 4. MY MASTER THE THIEF I just find this one so cute, Tony and Jeannie sneaking around each other, stealing the slippers back and worth. Tony stealing a tiny Jeannie slipper out of her bottle in the middle of the night then, Jeannie planting a big kiss on Tony at the end keeping his mind off the fact she has stolen them back! 5. WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO BABY CUSTER? I love the episodes where Jeannie is almost discoverd the most! This is one of the best . Tony really wants to Kiss Jeannie at the end of this too !. Great Barbara and Larry scene. 6. MY WILED EYED MASTER This one was a hoot! Larry was fantastic almost blind in this. What a big tease being able to see everyone in their underwear. Great stuff. 7. MY INCREDIBLE SHRINKING MASTER Pure fun to watch! Larry Hagman at his best here( on the record player hehe) as a cat lover and owner this in right on the mark! Funny stuff. 8. MY TURNED ON MASTER Jeannie kisses Tony about 20 times in the 1st 30 seconds of the show! Good comedy in this one too. Well done. 9.MEET MY MASTERS MOTHER Barbara Eden was too cute here. Love the tiny Jeannie always up to trouble. Funny episode! Jeannie telling Tony she has a mother in law problem! Tony's mother washing the bottle with Jeannie still inside! 10. AN ASTRONAUT IN SHEEP'S CLOTHING This was one of the best after marriage shows. Very well done and sweet. Tony and Jeannie at home. The bottle scene at the end with Tony holding and comforting a crying Jeannie. One ofhe best kisses of the shows run!
I also love, NEVER PUT A GENIE ON A BUDGET, HURRICANE JEANNIE,JEANNIE AND THE CURIOUS KID AND PLEASE DON'T GIVE MY GENIE ANY MORE WINE.
