The only show I can think of that had a reunion and had almost the entire original cast, and did well was The Dick Vanmanly woman Reunion... I watched it and though I cringed a bit at the wrinkles and age, the sparkle was still there... it made me smile... Superior? Not by a long shot. Good? You bet.

I looked on imdb.com and it has a slate for 2008 but next to it is "announced". They credit Cormac and Marrianne Wibberly to writing the screenplay and the only actor that is listed is Jimmy Fallon for Tony Nelson and it's only "rumored". There is a production and art team listed (three people each) so I don't know how much merit this has.
There are comments listed like "Who should play Jeannie" and "who should NOT play Jeannie". There was one comment stating that Kate Bosworth should play Jeannie. After seeing how she distroyed my other female role model in "Superman Returns" the H*ll I'm going to let her distroy another.
And I remember being young and writing Barbara Eden a letter about how they should make a movie (this was in 1992) and the only person I could come up with to play Tony Nelson was Tom Hanks. In fact, I still think that he would make the best Tony Nelson of the past two Generations in hollywood. Now I know this was a total conisidence but there was a blurb in my local paper (obviously taken off AP) about a Jeannie Movie and Barbara Eden is quoted as saying she didn't know who should play Jeannie but "Tom Hanks would be lovely as Tony Nelson".
...Besides, there won't be a Jeannie movie because *I'M* not slated as playing Jeannie. ;D I mean, until hollywood gets the memo about my talent and availability in a blink of an eye there will be the most wonderful Jeannie movie made! LOL (but seriously, I'm only half joking...*snickers*)

There is potential for making a great IDOJ movie but the way Hollywood is, I highly doubt that.

Well, that IMDB page has been up for a long time... I really don't think it means that they're seriously still considering making it. At least I really hope not!

Yeah, I think there are a few other IMDB pages on potential Jeannie movies up, too... they've all been up a long time, and I really don't think those pages indicate anything official or conclusive.

I actually must say first of all Nicole was the right choice for Samantha, it was the movie that was WRONG....and maybe with that movie tanking everyone took a step back and realized, hey we can't just take beloved characters "reinvent" them....
Also, as regards to Jenna Elfman, now, she is too old, but when i started watching Darma & Greg, I actually thought it somewhat Jeannie like, but with out the magic....at least the first few episodes...

Well, I can't really say about the Bewitched movie as I'm not too much of a Bewitched fan. In general though I agree that reinventing characters is bad if not done properly. However the new Battlestar Galactica did it alright, I think, it is quite different from Battlestar Galactica (The Original Series) but both are good in their own rights. So I guess it's not impossible to reinvent something and make it better. Oh, really? Interesting. I've never heard of this Darma & Greg show/series before, I need to check it out. Thanks!

This is my first post here. This thread makes me a bit uneasy; not at the prospect of a film version. Quite the contrary, I think this show is so incredibly rich, that a writer skilled at adaptation could weave a truly compelling and cinematic motion picture. My worry comes from reading fan's lack of faith in that which they so love! I know that no matter who makes the inevitable Jeanne flick, no matter what they do to it, this shows legacy will live on its own! Did the Bewitched movie kill the show? Did the Lord of the Rings kill the books? Did the "Willy Wonka" movie in the seventies kill the original book by Mr. Dahl? No! And even in the last case, "the chocolate factory" was given a second chance! And the second time around proved to be much more faithful to what I and so many other Dahl fans loved! I believe Jeannie will burst with popularity again; if only to draw attention to the original show. But I sincerely hope that when it happens, it falls into the hands of a respectful talent. I wont lie about my affinity for the concept of a project, as a writer, I've done up my own treatment for a Jeannie motion picture. Every year I cross my fingers, hoping "Let these lame projects die in development hell!" Hopeing desperately to establish myself in the industry before anyone gets their hands on it From one fan to all these others, here's hopeing! -Nick

Well, I too am hoping they put the movie idea to rest . It just won't work as it is too hard to please the true IDOJ fans. I don't think Hollywood really cares about giving the fans something to rave about when it comes to these remakes. We all know and feel that Barbara Larry and Bill cannot be replaced. And , if they are made, it would be a crime not to have Barbara, Larry and Bill in cameos. I also feel the TV movies were such a huge let down for the fans mainly with the absence of Larry Hagman. I just don't see how they could have even thought of making these without him. I read in his book that he was never even asked about making the 1st one till a week before shooting! I am sorry to say this , but I never felt the show would have worked without Larry and Barbara even knows this. It was no shock to me that the TV movies did not even come close to the Ori. show. The 1st was just okay, the latter, just plain garbage. I would rather see a 2 hour TV get-togther with the remaining cast reliving all of the episodes with the their thoughts on the show and all their favorite momories . Sort of what they did for the 1st season DVD's. I thought this was wonderful! I know this idea would make this fan very happy. ;D

I completely agree littlegenie63! To have them all get together and talk about their favourite episodes would be a hoot! I don't understand why Sony is being so cheap with the DVD's. Something like this could easily be arranged with the cast and would make a wonderful extra feature on the DVD's!

Yes,jeannietonyfan, What is wrong with Sony! The fact that we still have these main 3 actors around is a blessing alone. Look at the poor cast of Bewitched. They all died too early from illness. Sony should take advantage of this before it is too late. I am still hoping for something extra on the 5 season DVD'S. I guess money is stopping them. Shame on Sony. We need to send some e-mails letting them know We would love something more.

No, I don't have a link or e-mail off hand. I was thinking of the IDOJ sony website might have something.
